IWGI creates transformative spaces for women and girls to participate in sustainable development with dignity, respect, and equity.
The Indigenous Women and Girls Initiative (IWGI) is a women-led community-based organization located in Marigat, Baringo County. Our primary goal is to transform the livelihoods of indigenous peoples in Baringo and beyond through agroecology and permaculture, enhancing community resilience to climate change. By fostering sustainable practices and advocating for gender equality, we aim to create a world where indigenous women and girls can thrive with dignity and respect.
We are empowering indigenous women and girls through sustainable practices that transform semi-arid landscapes and build climate-resilient communities. Our initiatives blend traditional knowledge with innovative agroecology, bringing a new perspective to rural development and gender equality.
At IWGI, we train indigenous communities in agroecological practices and establish permaculture farm models in schools to foster intergenerational knowledge transfer. Our goal is to build resilient communities that can withstand the impacts of climate change.
We enlighten communities on sustainable utilization of grazing fields and promote permaculture adoption to maximize productivity. Healthy soils are the foundation of food sovereignty, and our programs ensure communities can sustainably produce food.
IWGI is committed to gender inclusivity in policy and advocacy. We work to fast-track policies and legislation for gender mainstreaming and conduct grassroots campaigns against gender-based violence (GBV), creating spaces for women to be involved in sustainable development.
Help us empower indigenous women and girls to lead sustainable lives and build resilient communities.
