Towards the realization of the rights of girls and women in the society.
To create transformative spaces for women and girls to participate in their sustainable development in dignity, respect, and equity.
Indigenous Women and Girls Initiative (IWGI) is a Women-led Community-Based Organization registered in Kenya, headquartered in Marigat Town, Baringo County. Founded in 2019 and officially registered in 2021, IWGI was established by local Indigenous women with a mission to amplify the voices of Women, Girls, and Youths.
IWGI was formed to address the challenges faced by women, girls, youth girls, elderly women, children’s girls, and girls living with disabilities. Our purpose is to enhance women’s and girls’ sense of self-worth, their right to determine choices, access opportunities and resources, and have the power to control their lives both within and outside the home. We aim to empower them to influence the direction of social and economic well-being.
Recognizing that these marginalized groups are the most vulnerable in society, IWGI is committed to building their capacities for social, economic, and political development. Our interventions focus on advocacy, inclusion, and education about existing policies and legislation that protect their fundamental rights, such as the Paris Agreement, Children’s Act, the Constitution of Kenya 2010, Public Participation Act, Community Land Act, Anti-Female Genital Mutilation Act, Climate Change Act, and other critical legislations.
